Kinvo Training: Please join me in the auditorium on Monday during the first half of the PL time for a quick training on how to effectively utilize Kinvo to communicate with parents. Please make sure that you created a password and you are able to log in to your account. Please come to the auditorium with your laptop. I will show you how to update/add parent contact information on Kinvo, including adding cellphone numbers. If you have the most up-to date cellphone numbers for your parents, please bring them so you can add them.
Before/After School Training: Teachers who have been selected to work the morning/after school programs will join us in room 204 on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, during parent engagement time for a training around the Math and ELA packet. Selected teachers will be notified by Ms. Heskial tonight or tomorrow.
Before/After School Programs: Our morning and after school ELA and math enrichment programs start on Wednesday. The program will run on Wednesdays and Thursdays until June 14, 2018 (14 sessions). The program is geared towards helping our 3rd and 4th grade struggling students. Our goal is to ensure that those students are ready to handle the next grade level curriculum in September. We took the following steps to select students that will be in the program:
We administered ELA and Math simulation tests.
We analyzed the test results to identify the CCL standards and skills students struggled with or mastered.
We identified skills to target based on the analysis and selected students that struggled the most with those skills.
We, then, created common core aligned packets to address those skills.
With these packets, students will be provided with individualized instruction based on their needs.
We will constantly monitor student progress and make modifications to the packets and the structure of the program if need be.
I shared with the classroom teachers the skills item analysis results. We believe those results will help our 3rd and 4th grade teachers identify areas to address when they work with their students. Updating second window F & P Reading Levels on the Data Portal: Please enter the second window F & P reading levels on the data portal using the following link. You will follow the same steps you followed the first time you entered F & P reading levels. Please remember to enter "Pre-A" for students who are reading at an "AA" level. Curriculum/Hiring Committee: I am a strong believer in collaborative leadership. I believe teachers should actively involved around hiring new staff members and deciding which curriculum to use to better serve our students and the larger school community. We are looking for volunteers to be in the hiring and curriculum committee. Those that volunteer should be prepared to stay after school if/when we have new applicant(s) and attend a training around best practices on hiring and curriculum design. Student Arrival and Breakfast: As a reminder, a letter went out to parents informing them of some of the changes to the Breakfast Program here at P.S.201. Effective Wednesday, the cafeteria will be open for breakfast from 7:30 to 8:05 a.m. At 8:05 a.m., the cafeteria will stop serving breakfast. Students will head to the auditorium and the gym at 8:06 a.m. Teachers will pick up students at the auditorium and the gym at 8:10 a.m. Any student who arrives to the school after 8:10 will be marked late.
Reminder: Lateness Policy: Students who arrive to school after 8:10, will be directed to their classroom. We will no longer issue late passes to students as you will be taking attendance as soon as you get to your classroom and notify parents via Kinvo. We will monitor students who are constantly late/absent and contact parents as well.
