The PS 201 Penguins have been part of the District 25 basketball league for the past 7 years. The basketball team is comprised of 4th and 5th grade students, both boys and girls who elect to try out for our team. Within our league, we schedule games with participating schools and promote teamwork, sportsmanship and above all respect. Through our practices and games, we work together to develop our individual abilities, our mental awareness, our communication skills, teamwork and our dedication to our teammates. We also discuss the importance of leadership with our team, often engaging our 5th grade students to become mentors for our 4th grade students. Through our constant collaboration with one another, we have created a positive atmosphere that not only produces great basketball games, but greater accountability amongst the team members. Each basketball team member understands the importance of their academics and work together.

Stars After School Dance
Stars After School Dance Company is an after school program for 3d, 4th, and 5th graders designed to expose students to a professional artistic dance company model. After auditioning, the students collaborate to create original dances and perform them at a variety of school community events. Notable events include the Winter Extravaganza, Lunar New Year Celebration, African-American History Month, and the Spring into the Arts Concert. Aligned with our STEAM theme, students ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve their dances, until they are ready to share and shine on stage.
Shakespeare Players Enrichment
Shakespeare Players Enrichment is a program for 4th and 5th graders who dive into the literary world of William Shakespeare through drama, music, dance, and design. Inspired by The Royal Shakespeare Company's pedagogy, the students access concepts and themes through project-based learning and embodying the text. The program culminates with a staged performance of a Shakespeare play, with every element produced by the students.
Wednesdays & Fridays
2:40 - 4:40 p.m.
On Stage provides a team of professional theatre artists who will guide students in a workshop setting, featuring individual and group activities, as they create a fully staged musical theatre production. Students will select a theme, learn the necessary skills in acting, improvisation, writing, vocal, musical and dance disciplines, and help create props and costumes that will lead to a final presentation. The program culminates with an in-school assembly performance day for the rest of the grades, plus a final performance in a beautiful world-class concert hall space at Queens college for the parents, families and invited guests. That final event pairs the students with a professional director, stage manager, lighting designer, sound engineer, and crew to give the students a taste of the professional theatre world.
