A Word from the Principal
Dear PS 201Q Families/Guardians,
It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself as the new Principal of PS 201Q. My passion for the success of all students has been shaped over the past 17 years as an educator in different capacities. I have worked as an ESL teacher, ESL Coordinator, instructional coach, staff developer, Director of School Quality and Assistant Principal.
In each of my roles, I have worked tirelessly to ensure that students are provided with the best instructional, extracurricular opportunities and support possible – and I maintain that commitment to each and every student here at PS 201Q. I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate. It is the school’s pledge that we will spend a lot of time with your children, getting to know their personalities, learning styles and interests. We will celebrate their successes, small and large, and continue to encourage them every day, letting them know they are valued and have a special place in our school community.
As principal, my goal is to ensure that your child is safe, happy, healthy, and is provided with the highest quality of education. This has been my philosophy since I began my career teaching for the New York City Department of Education. I have had many successes throughout my professional life but I believe my greatest achievement comes not professionally, but personally, as the father of three beautiful children. I approach administration in a similar way to parenting, in that I want every student to feel acknowledged, encouraged, and inspired through the best possible experiences. I’ve often heard people comment that I treat the children in my school as if they were my own.
As a school, we are dedicated to making sure your children are treated with respect and that they reach deep levels of profound learning through relevant and engaging educational experiences. Our staff of extraordinary teachers, paraprofessionals, school aides, custodians, school nurse, kitchen staff and office personnel arrive each day prepared to give their best to our students, you, and the larger school community. I look forward to meeting you and sharing the great things your children are doing here at PS 201Q.
I am thrilled to begin this new endeavor and feel so lucky to be part of your community. I look forward to getting to know you and your children! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas that you would like to discuss.
Umit Serin, Principal
